The NHS Leadership Awards 2010

The 2010 NHS Leadership Awards ceremony took place on Wednesday 8th December in the historic Great Hall at Barts.
Nine nominees from across the country were presented with awards recognising and celebrating the achievements of outstanding leaders working for, and on behalf of the NHS. This year an additional 'Special Recognition Award' was introduced by the NHS Chief Executive, Sir David Nicholson KCB CBE. The award celebrated the collaborative work done by Birmingham Women's Hospital and the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine.

Films of the finalists can be viewed on the Department of Health's YouTube site. If the awards films do not appear immediately on the first page, please type in "NHS Leadership Awards 2010" in the search space.

Our efforts on quality will not achieve what we are seeking for patients if we don’t get leadership in the right place.

Leadership for quality is not about policing the boundaries of individual organisations. It is about putting the interests of patients and the public first, and working across boundaries with partners and other organisations, particularly around improving patient pathways.

These awards recognise where NHS leaders are transforming care for our patients.

Sir David Nicholson KCB CBE, NHS Chief Executive
